The ability to think and act in terms of systems is a prerequisite to being able to structure and operate organizations/enterprises so that they can (pro-) actively pursue their business goals or missions. Systems thinking (also called systemic thinking) has evolved, through diverse contributions, into a discipline that can be applied in understanding the holistic aspects of systems including the dynamic relationships between systems in operation. Through proper systems thinking, organizations can learn to identify system problems and opportunities and to determine the need for system changes. The ISO/IEC 15288 System Life-Cycle Processes standard has been developed in order enable organizations/enterprises to life cycle manage their systems (both hard and soft). Thus, the application of this standard provides an essential instrument for change management. In this seminar, we consider the roles of systems thinking together with the new standard in achieving the holistic view of systems required for both thinking and acting in terms of systems.
